Long Time Coming.....

5 year anniversary of Katrina....
These are pics of how far New Orleans has come in 5 years.
The United States Government should have never let it go this far and look this bad.
And for it to only look like this after 5 LONG YEARS is Trrragggicccc.
God Bless all of the people that endured that storm.

Islamic tensions are steadily growing in the US. The prime example being the protest of a Mosque across from the remains of the World Trade Centers. Im not going to woo you with facts and my stance on the Islamic faith blah blah blah, I just want to conjure you to think for yourself by gracing you with a few thoughts I've had on my own. I can admit that when the events first happened back in 2001, I was very weary of those who looked like terrorists (quote unquote), a very racist thought, but a very real thought, a very American thought. Our country in its roots expresses values of freedom and equality, a nation under God (unspecified God I might add), a land of opportunity, self expression;  in its roots, America serves as an "Everyman's" Utopia, a natural paradise. But who is this everyman and who does he represent? Everyman may as well be called "white man" (lets keep it real), but throughout the years minorities have swindled their way into the Everyman mentality. Seeing themselves as better than, or elite to others that are not as "American" as they are.  As slavery, civil rights, and suffrage become a distant memory we forget the journey and suck hard on the teet of JADED equality. We have put on the mask of the everyman and forgotten what it was like and still is like to fight for Earthly rights. We forgot what it was to feel less than American. We forgot what it was to be treated as a subhuman. WE forgot what lies beneath our mask.

I write honestly and organically, through all of my personal prejudices both past and present, and I urge you to stand for what is right. I have often asked myself the question, why there? why that spot of all spots? is there not any OTHER property in Manhattan? However, as a black woman and an American citizen, I have got to ask myself what if it was my mosque? What if it was my faith? What if my right to build and to worship were being threatened? It is time for us to mentally mature, to acknowledge prejudice within ourselves and in our communities, stare it in the eye and declare war on THAT!  Prejudice is the real terrorist.

No "them", no "you", just "us". Create community. Fight the Everyman.

Still Got It.....

Yea she might not be with Mr. West anymore, but she still got it....

For All You Haters

Lebron covers the September issue of GQ Mag.
Here are somethings he says in mag:
On Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert:
“I don’t think he ever cared about LeBron.
My mother always told me: ‘You will see the light of people when they hit adversity.
You’ll get a good sense of their character.’
Me and my family have seen the character of that man.”
On imagining himself playing for the Cavaliers again one day:
“If there was an opportunity for me to return and those fans welcome me back,
that’d be a great story.… Maybe the ones burning my jersey were never LeBron fans anyway."

On how growing up helped him learn about facing adversity and staying humble:
“That’s what keeps me humble, because I know my background, know what my mother went through. I never get too high on my stardom or what I can do. My mom always says, and my friends say, ‘You’re just a very low-maintenance guy.’”
I will always be a Lebron fan no matter what the haters have to say.....and we'll see what the Heat do come November.
The September issue of GQ hits news stands next Tuesday (August 24)

Down Down

Is it the end for one of America's favorite retailers, American Apparel. There have been a lot of rumors flying around about the stores sales are down and the huge hiring of illegal immigrants.

Here is a little more insight on the situation via Black Book "Could It Be The End For American Apparel?"

American Apparel is facing adversity that could leave the mega retailer high and dry. Fourth quarter sales are down 23% as of this past Friday. Apparently in the past year and a half American Apparel has had difficulty keeping “their shelves fully stocked thanks to the vise-like grip on cash kept by Lion Capital, [a major stake holder and] the London-based investment firm whose March 2009 financing deal saved Charney’s bacon.”

…when the feds raided American Apparel’s Los Angeles warehouses last summer and “charged that one third of the workers at the retailer’s Los Angeles factory were illegal immigrants,” the loss of so much of the company’s workforce was crippling. Despite Charney’s longtime championing of workers’ rights, it’s the hiring of illegal ones that may be his downfall…

Well I hope the rumors aren't true, but now a days in this shitty economy....ya never know. smh
